Pumpkin Spice Muffins

Good afternoon,
Today we will be baking together. Last night I baked one of the pumpkins that we had worked with during throughout the day. We will use the meat from the pumpkin in our muffins. The recipe is very simple and I have included it below. This recipe works with almost any fruit, just omit/change the spices accordingly.

  • 2 cups pumpkin puree or mashed pumpkin
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
spices:
  • 2 pinches ground cloves
  • 2 pinches ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • or more to taste.
Mix first 4 ingredients well, add dry ingredients. Fill muffin tins lined with wrappers 2/3 full or with ~1/4 c batter. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.

Party Committee

The Halloween Party Committee has met (student numbers 3, 7, 8 and 11.)
They have planned some exciting activities, decorations and snacks for our celebration. Our party will take place after last recess at 2:45 on October 30th. Snack reminders went home today for those students who are responsible for bringing snacks. More information regarding costumes and the parade will be posted closer to the date.

The Party Committee chose to survey the class for their input on some of the snacks. They made a graph to represent the information they collected and then looked at the data. They were able to make their decision based on their survey results.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! We're almost through our first week back and we are right back into our routines and starting a few new ones. We're working hard at reading and have made a lot of progress. We're also working on our sight words. We are beginning to write lists in our agendas of words we're working on. These words can be "played with" at home: write words in the frost on the window or door, make a memory game with them on small pieces of paper (have your child do the work), trace the words in the snow.

A few updates:
-Scholastics is due tomorrow
-discovery forms went home to those families who had requested them
-proper winter gear is needed as we often go outside for recess
